Locked Out

I have resorted to spewing craziness to my children in an effort to try to make them listen to me. I totally get this from my mother because if I was ever bad she would say that the “weagon people” were coming to pick me up and take me away. We lived near a food store and people would frequently walk with the shopping cart on my block. I remember as clear as day always getting so scared I would hide. But let me tell you, it worked. I still shake in my boots thinking about it. My thing now is when the kids act up I’ll say the “weagon people” are coming! But they don’t do anything. Not scared one bit these kids. Until I told them that when they act bad the police are going to come and take them. This they listen to, especially my youngest daughter. So sometimes I have to whip out that saying to keep them in check. Now, after using the police as a mechanism to make my kids listen, one thing I did not think about is what happens if the police do ever come. Well ladies and gents, that time has come. Recently I took a Friday off so I could go see my Nonna with my kids. (If anyone knows me my Nonna is the light of my life). After a nice visit, I go into my car, press start, and get the twins in. I shut the door and proceed to open drivers door and it is LOCKED. I immediately try to find my car app to unlock the doors and it is not working. The twins are locked in the car. I am trying everything. I tell my youngest daughter through the window “please unbuckle your car seat and unlock the door” and this child is laughing and holding up a container of play dough. First, how did this child get play dough and second, what 2.5 year old thinks this is funny! Now, I’m sweating. So I call 911. The police arrive, my son is sobbing in the back of the car and my daughter is no longer laughing, why? Because they think the police are coming to take them to jail for being bad. As I am looking through the window at my daughter that play dough dropped so fast and she is now screaming! What’s worse is the officers are now taking this big long metal hanger type of device to open the window so these kids are like “OMG they are breaking in the car to take us.” Finally we get them out and they both are sobbing saying “please don’t take us, no mommy we aren’t bad bad.” (I am cracking up thinking about it). These kids were horrified not because they were locked in the car but rather they thought they were going to jail for being bad. As I was driving home, I said to myself “omg, I am not telling a soul about this not even my husband because I will be in so much trouble.” Later that day, my husband comes home and my youngest daughter spills the beans. In her little 2 year old voice, telling my husband how the police came and took her out of mommy’s car and she was going to jail.” My husband was so perplexed and was like what is going on??? I kept it short and sweet and said she must of had too many fruit snacks today (haha)
